Position Summary

This position is responsible for the safe, reliable, efficient and cost-effective operation and maintenance of Plant McDonough-Atkinson. This person will be responsible for leadership, guidance, engagement and performance management for the Instrument and Control (I&C) Technicians to help Plant McDonough become the best combined cycle plant in the world. This person will be an integral part of the plant maintenance team responsible for executing the maintenance plan and clearly communicating with other team leaders and plant management on impending issues as they arise.

The expectations of this position include:

  • Provide superior leadership to the McDonough-Atkinson I&C team.

  • Performance management, career development, personnel development of assigned employees – similar involvement with other site employees.

  • Interfacing with other Fleet I&C team leaders and SME’s to facilitate the sharing of best practices, optimizing resources and managing fleet wide projects/initiatives.

  • Responsible for facilitating and maintaining a cyber security program on devices critical to the control and operation of a generating plant according to established guidelines to ensure auditable and sustainable compliance with applicable NERC-CIP standards.

  • Assist the Engineering team, as applicable, with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, cost, schedule and commissioning.

  • Participate in Management of Change, Process Safety Management, and Plant Review Board and other process safety related reviews as required.

  • Ownership of engineering related tasks including troubleshooting efforts and the RCA process as necessary.

  • Champion the planning process - fully utilize Maximo.

  • Support GPC Generation via the Operations Review Board (ORB) process.

  • Effectively communicate and interact with multiple customers and key stakeholders.

  • Support services contracts including a Long-Term Service Agreement with a major combustion turbine OEM.

  • Provide "On-Call" responsibilities.

Employment/Work Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years power plant experience (or similar process) with emphasis on plant control systems and instrumentation is required.

  • Experience with controls system design including applications for low and medium voltage distribution systems and controls for equipment such as turbines, pumps, feedwater controls, and data displays is required.

  • Prefer experience in the engineering, operation & maintenance of combined cycle plants utilizing dual fuel combustion turbines.

  • Prefer experience in the start-up and commissioning of dual fuel simple/combined cycle turbine and DCS controls.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of instrumentation and controls is required.

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.

  • Previous experience leading technicians or engineers preferred.

  • Experience with Maximo is desired.

  • Knowledge of Mitsubishi/Ovation/Toshiba or equivalent equipment and controls systems is preferred.

  • Experience with tuning of process control loops is preferred.

  • Well-developed set of analytical skills capable of troubleshooting a wide variety of simple and interrelated systems.

  • Ability to identify and implement process improvements.

  • Experience in planning and executing major projects.

  • Effective communicator, both written and oral.

  • Basic computer skills required; including working knowledge of Microsoft Office (i.e.: Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).

  • Knowledge of environmental, safety, and OSHA regulations preferred.
