Team Leader Operations McIntosh Combined Cycle (CC)

Position Summary

This position will specifically serve as the Team Leader responsible for the Operations training program, to include General Plant Operator (GPO) training, simulator training, procedure and checklist development and other training. The job responsibilities for the position will include the following, but not limited to:

  • Administer GPO evaluations

  • 3-year re-qualifications

  • Newly hired GPO’s

  • Job Knowledge Evaluations (JKE’s)

  • Operations Simulator training

  • Evaluate GPO’s prior to working selected shift

  • Evaluate GPO’s during 3-year requalification process

  • Train employees on plant equipment and processes

  • Abnormal operation scenario training, including simulator exercises

  • Communicate and train Operations and other plant functional work groups.

  • Critique unit start up and shutdowns, and develop action plans to address any deficiencies.

  • Effectively utilize OIS and assist in troubleshooting Unit operational issues

  • Perform various Operations Department tasks as needed such as procedure development, PM management, and training.

This position will also serve alongside the other Operations TLs and be responsible for day to day operation of the plant including but not limited to, communicating with Fleet Operations, working with Planning and Scheduling department to ensure effective outages and maintenance activities, procuring materials and reviewing/approving invoices, coordinating various contractor provided services and overseeing those projects to insure quality workmanship and value for cost of service. This position provides leadership to McIntosh CC employees to maximize plant reliability and efficiency while complying with all safety, regulatory, and environmental requirements. The incumbent will provide coaching through performance management for each member of the team, seeking to develop the employees’ skills for future opportunities. As a member of the Plant leadership team the successful candidate will provide input concerning potential work method, process, or equipment improvements that would contribute to the success of the Plant.

This position will support Retail Operations Review Board (ORB) process; continue support of System Ownership Program; foster the culture established at McIntosh CC and lead by example. This position also assumes total responsibility for on-site activities when the Plant Manager and O&M manager are not available.

The successful candidate will be trained to serve as incident commander during emergency situations and must be able to support hurricane or storm duty, as required. This may consist of long hours, overnight stays and working holidays.

Job Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the Operation of electric generating plants required.

  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of a Combined Cycle plant strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience (such as, but not limited to: previous supervisory experience, experience substituting as a leader, leader of a project/assignment, system owner, union steward, or other leadership role ) preferred.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills.

  • Analytical skills necessary to determine current and future operating conditions and trends for optimizing plant performance.

  • Well-developed set of analytical skills capable of troubleshooting a wide variety of simple and interrelated systems.

  • Ability to identify and implement process improvements

  • Must be flexible, forward- thinking, and strategic-minded.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent ability to work well with and develop teams.

  • OIS, Ovation, and Mark VIe control system experience preferred

  • Understanding of the IBEW contract agreement.

  • Knowledge of environmental, safety and OSHA regulations.

  • Must possess an understanding of power plant cycles, equipment and systems

  • Strong planning and coordination abilities

  • Self-motivated

  • Maximo experience, preferred

  • Computer skills required
